Tech giant Google said on
Thursday it is investing €500m to expand its data centre in in Eemshaven, Groningen province.
The
expansion is necessary to meet ‘growing demand from consumers and companies,’
Google is quoted as saying by the Telegraaf. The announcement was made at a
meeting in the northern port.
The expansion will take the company’s total
investment in the data centre to €1.5bn. It currently employs 250 people but
their number will be increased following the expansion, a spokesman told the
paper.
The building work itself will provide work for 1,200 people.
